DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

The Department of Political Science commenced its journey from the year 1994. It has been one of the oldest departments of this institution. The Department of Political Science is one of the leading departments of the college having the highest number of enrolled “Bachelor of Arts” students consistently from last many years. The department has completed many years of its glorious presence with significant contribution towards teaching and learning in the discipline of Political Science. Students enrolled in the department are encouraged to pursue higher studies to enhance their knowledge, Conducting Research and to compete in various National and State levels Competitive Examinations. Many of the students who have passed out from the department are now serving as faculty members in schools and other institutions of learning within and outside of North-East India and also found placements in various Government and Private sector organizations. The department runs its academic course both in BA Core (Hons) and BA General (Pass) in semester mode and follows the grading system introduced by Assam University, Silchar in the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) mode from the academic year 2018-2019. The curriculum covers theoretical conceptual and empirical aspects of the discipline. Seminars, group discussions, quizzes, extension work, Educational excursions, Projects/ Field Study etc., are some of the cardinal co-curricular activities of the department for the benefit of both the students and the Faculty members of the Department.

• To make the students aware of the various political theories and concepts, Indian and Western political thoughts

• To create an urge for new knowledge and make the students. enthusiastic for pursuing higher education in the discipline of political science and to conduct research.
• To enhance the rational and critical thinking about a problem and ideas to solve them.
• To make understand the political and administrative process.

• To teach Indian democratic values & to develop an interest in the subject of political science.
• To provide updated information and to motivate students for preparing for competitive exams like UPSC, APSC, SSC etc.

Best Practices

• Rotation of syllabus among the faculties so that every teacher of the department have a complete command over the entire syllabus.
• Remedial classes are held for the weaker students.
• All faculty members of the department are the members of Electoral Literacy Club.

Future Plan of the Department

• To arrange for educational tours.
• To start Self-financed certificate and add-on courses.
• To organize National & International level seminars, workshops etc.
• To start Research oriented programs and projects.
• To invite professors/teachers from other institutions to deliver class-lectures.
• To use more ICT equipment like LCD projectors, video- tapes to make teaching learning process more effective.
• To develop a well-equipped departmental library.
