Since 1994, when the college was established ,the Department of history was one of the most prominent and mainstream optional department of the college for imparting knowledge on historical studies .As college is affiliated to Assam University, Silchar , the Department discharges it's academic activities within the course curriculum and syllabus allocated by University in B.A (general ) pass subject and follows the semester as well as CBCS mode of enrollment system. Besides this , the Department also organizes seminar, internal test ,home assignment quizzes etc to evaluate the effectiveness of students progress in study.
The department also organizes out of box activities like lecture series , tour in various historical places situated within North East India to enhance the practical learning experience and historical inquiry.
Distinguished teachers adorned as the faculty of history from its beginning. Presently the department has three teachers . The teachers are rendering all possible assistance and guidance to students in the spare of obtaining academic as well as social achivements.
Students of this college are opting the subject History not only for their interest in the field of historical importance but also for empowering themselves in the field of various scopes for further study and engagement in govt and non- govt sector jobs .Over the past few years, A number of alumni members of the Department have become academicians in various schools, junior colleges etc. as well as public servent in various branches of Govt. & Private sector.

To aware students about the glorious past of Indian History through teaching-learning, research and other related activities and to provide useful information of past, necessary for understanding the current problems of social, political, religious and economic aspects of human life which would enable students to analyze & weigh evidences and take right decisions.
1) To creates interest as well as love for reading historical figures, characters, events and facts which are found necessary for solving the present problems effectively.
2) Prepare students to face future challenges with confidence and mutual co-operation.
3) To develop curiosity and skills of critical thinking among students in the concerned discipline.
4) To encourage students for pursuing Higher Studies in the concerned discipline and to conduct research.
5) To prepare students for cracking various competitive examinations.
1) Arranging Educational tours in local historical places for developing interest and having practical knowledge of history of this region.
2) The Department of History organizes seminar, lectures etc. to provide motivation, group learning and to increase the capacity to learn among students.
1) Lack of interest in the subject based on previous knowledge.

1) To introduce Honours course in History Subject.
2) To make teaching-learning more effective by using ICT tools.
