DEPARTMENT OF ARABIC


Assam has a deep relation with the Arab world culturally, economically and historically. In these backdrop and seeing the interest of the locality the department of Arabic was started in the College few years after its establishment. Since its inception in 1995 as elective subject of Arts stream in three year degree pass course, the language Arabic has been enrolling in its registry a good number of students every year and continuing its journey as one of the best departments in case of scoring marks, credits and results by the students. As the college is an affiliated one to the Assam University, Silchar, the department follows course and syllabus framed by the University. From the session 2017-2018, as the university introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), the department has been following the same. The department outputted a great number of glowing graduates who are working in various academic and non-academic institutions and in govt. and private sectors showing their skill and capacity in their respective fields. The department has three full time teachers who have been performing their duties of teaching and professional, co-curricular and research based activities with utmost care and sincerity. They have been playing active roles in promoting knowledge by participating and presenting papers in national and international seminars and conferences and by contributing articles and books etc.

Mission


The mission of the department is

(a) to promote and impart the knowledge of Arabic language and literature for strengthening Indo-Arab cultural, trade and historical relations by ensuring Indian national interests,

(b) to prepare the students with functional Arabic language for jobs in modern-day employment sectors opened for the Arabic language and created by the Arab world in India and abroad.

Best Practices


Most of students have poor subject based ability and lack of consciousness over foreign language, therefore, taking remedial measures and organizing ability enhancement and other capacity building programs is a regular calling of the department as.

Future Plan of the Department


The department of Arabic has plan

(a) to publish an academic journal, books on Indo-Arab cultural, trade and historical relations and organize national and international level seminars and conferences regularly,

(b) to introduce certificate and diploma courses in Translation (English-Arabic-Bengali), Interpretation (Tourism, Business and Commerce), Communicative and Functional Arabic and to take-off the honor’s course adopting and implanting the New Education Policy by the approval of and under the guidance of the College and as per instruction of the University,

(c) to promote inter-disciplinary research in collaboration with other departments of the college and University

(d) to carry out minor and major projects from various sponsoring agencies.
